A) PROTOTYPING : The group converts the paper design
to
a product going through the chores of PCB and enclosure
designing and execution. Testing of product to design specifications
and weeding out all
teething problems for the manufacturing department.
B) MANUFACTURING BACKUP : Invariably new products mean new
technologies
and hence new production systems and processes. This team streamlines
new processes as
required to cater to the new demands. This includes design and construction
of newer,
dedicated or universal test equipment, jigs, and fixtures essential
for the product line.
As would be rightly expected, sourcing of components and vendor
development
automatically becomes an inherent part of job.
C) DOCUMENTATION : In addition to regular documentation related
to new products the
group also creates the necessary production procedures, test reports
Q.C. norms and other
documentation required for certification to international standards.
D) TRAINING & STANDARDIZATION : To keep the related people
abreast of new
upcoming technologies and those introduced in newer products, this
group imparts training to
production and service personnel. This training becomes bi-directional
as the group receives
valuable information from the field experiences of service engineers
-a feedback vital for
improving present products and avoiding design quicksands for future
products.
The Engineering department, thus, acts as a buffer between the two
departments
